Example of Influencer Marketing

Influencer marketing works best for products or services that have an average customer lifetime value below $3,000. It also works best for any business that sells products or services directly to consumers.

This includes:

E-commerce businesses
SaaS products directed at consumers
SaaS products with an average customer lifetime value below $3,000

Any other business that sells low or mid-ticket items to consumers

These types of businesses usually offer their product for sale on their website, in an online shop or on a sales page. It could also be a free trial. But if you're selling directly to consumers and your product has a lifetime customer value below $3,000, you are likely not scheduling meetings or booking appointments.

You probably don't have a sales team, but rather sell products from a sales page or online store.

Influencer marketing is highly scalable

Instead of trying to go through the tiresome process of building your own audience or taking months or years to rank your website on Google, you can just tap into existing audiences from content creators.

The truth is that your ideal customer is already consuming content online.

Someone else already has access to your ideal customer.

What a lot of businesses don't realize is that influencer marketing can be done at scale.

Some businesses get their feet wet and partner with one or two content creators, but they lack a scalable strategy to do influencer marketing on a repeated basis, increasing the volume and exposure of campaigns every month and building long-term partnerships with the most profitable creators.

So how do you scale influencer marketing to grow your business?

At first, it makes sense to start with smaller creators in the 10,000-100,000 follower range.

It's important to have deal flow and be able to pick opportunities.

Our agency already has access to over 4 million social media influencers. Most of them have at least 10,000 followers online. A large percentage of them are on YouTube, followed by Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.

All our creators are sorted by niche, which allows us to quickly identify the best content creators for your business and reach out to them for a potential sponsorship or affiliate opportunity.

Additionally to leveraging our existing database, one of our team members will research and reach out to content creators that already have access to your ideal customers. Any content creator or influencer willing to partner up, either as an affiliate or for a sponsorship opportunity, is forwarded to you.

Due to our consistent outreach and abundance of creators, you'll usually have plenty of options. You can pick which creators you'd like to work with and which opportunities to pass on, for example because they charge too much.

This abundance and consistent deal flow allows you to only work with the best content creators, get the cheapest prices possible and keep the others for possible future campaigns.

Once you've picked the best and cheapest opportunities, we'll work with you to create a high-converting influencer marketing campaign. After the sponsored post or video went live, we'll review the results.

We take stock of the best and most profitable creators and turn them into long-term partners.

We also identify which campaigns and content format works best.

Once we have this dialled in, we continue working with the best creators on an ongoing basis while expanding to some of the other creators. This includes creators that might not have made it through our first selection. But it could also mean moving from the 10,000-100,000 follower range to the 100,000-1,000,000 follower range.

This way we can scale by repeatedly working with the best and most profitable content creators. We can increase the number of content creators we reach out to every month. And we can partner with bigger content creators that have significantly larger audiences.

Does influencer marketing really work? A multi-million dollar case study.

A partner of our agency runs a software business.

He has a free plan as well as several plans ranging from $29 a month to $97 a month.

Instead of using paid advertising, he reached out to content creators in his niche. At first, he tried to recruit them as affiliates. If they didn't respond or weren't interested, he offered to pay them.

Most of the creators he went after have between 10,000-500,000 followers.

The payment per sponsorship was usually between $1,000-$5,000.

This might seem like a lot, but the truth is that a lot of the sponsored videos on YouTube got thousands or tens of thousands of views. The creators that promoted his software had access to his ideal customer. The videos were natural, authentic and valuable. As a result, hundreds and eventually thousands of people signed up for the software purely as a result of these sponsored videos on YouTube.

The business ended up generating over $200,000+ a month in recurring monthly revenue.

The ads that were placed lived on YouTube forever, resulting in more leads and sales trickling in every week, month and year. He built long-term partnerships with the best creators. Eventually, he turned many into affiliates that promoted his SaaS product on a commission-only basis.

His business scaled quickly using influencer marketing (done the right way). His profit margins were extremely high, which allowed him to work with bigger and bigger content creators with time.

Achieving these same results with paid advertising on an online platform would have been a lot harder, if not impossible. Competition and advertising costs are becoming more expensive every year.

Example of Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is similar to influencer marketing but with one key difference. Instead of paying on a per-sponsorship basis, you only pay affiliate partners for each lead or sale they refer to your business.

This is an extremely cost-effective and low-risk way of acquiring customers.

The type of business that will see the most success with affiliate marketing is a business that sells products below $3,000. E-commerce businesses and software as a service businesses (SaaS) will see the best results. The reason for this is because these are the two most common products among affiliates.

Amazon has one of the largest affiliate programs on the planet, and there are hundreds of thousands of blogs that are already promoting products that are listed on Amazon in return for a small commission.

Software is the second extremely popular product category that affiliates like to promote.

Especially SaaS products, where customers pay a monthly recurring fee, are popular among affiliates. Affiliates love it when they can earn recurring commissions from promoting a subscription or software.

How affiliate marketing can grow your business

Consider the site SwitchBackTravel.com, which gets over 2 million visitors per month.

This site is in the outdoor and travel niche and mostly makes money from promoting other products. They promote anything from hiking boots to tents and flashlights. They research products, target popular Google search queries and then rank their articles in the top 10 search results in Google.

For example, if you search for "hiking boots" on Google, an article by SwitchBackTravel.com appears. At the time of writing this, their article is ranking in the first place in Google.

The term "hiking boots" is searched for 137,000 searches per month.

As you can imagine, the 20 hiking boots listed in this article are being sold like crazy because of this article. Consumers trust blogs like SwitchBackTravel.com when making purchasing decisions.

You can probably imagine how much money these 20 hiking boot companies are making just from this one article. And all they have to do is pay a small commission in return for each sale that SwitchBackTravel.com refers to them. Usually it's anywhere between 3-10%.

The people behind SwitchBackTravel.com are professional affiliate marketers.

They make good money from connecting consumers with brands. And the companies behind the products that are being promoted make a fortune without having to pay for advertising "out of pocket".

When it comes to affiliate marketing, there are countless professional affiliate marketers out there. What this means is that they make a full-time income from promoting products. Their job, if you will, is to write articles about products, rank these articles for search terms with buying intent (like "best hiking boots"), and then earn money every time someone purchases through their affiliate links.

This is a huge opportunity

There's affiliate sites in the golfing niche, pets, miniature painting, paintball, knitting, nutrition and pretty much any other niche you can think of. Almost any niche and industry is covered by affiliates, because they see it as an opportunity to make money. There are lots of so called "niche sites" that get a lot of monthly visitors. They're already ranking well on Google and want to promote products.

All you have to do is identify sites like this in your niche and ask them to promote your product. Remember, these are professional affiliate marketers who want to promote great products.

This is their "job".

And all they ask for is a small commission whenever one of their visitor buys from you.

Some of them might already have articles ranking for buying-intent search terms on Google, but they currently don't include your product. Maybe these websites don't know of your product and are instead promoting a competitor's product that isn't as good as yours.

One easy solution is to reach out to these blogs and authority sites and ask them to include your product in their article. They've already written the article, so all they have to do is add one more item to the list. This makes their article better and allows them to earn more since they provide consumers with more choices.

In some cases, you can even get them to list your product at the top of the article. You can do that by paying them a small fee or by simply offering a more attractive commission structure.

Most affiliate programs aren't that great. So if you can pay a little bit more than your competitors, most blog or authority site owners will be happy to list your product as high as possible in their articles. This way they can earn more money.

If a blog or authority site doesn't already have an article listing your competitors' products, you can approach them, recruit them as an affiliate and get them to promote your products.

Why is affiliate marketing so effective?

The amazing thing about affiliate marketing is that once a blog or authority site has written an article that ranks high in Google, they are likely to keep ranking high for months, years or even decades. The reason for this has to do with backlinks. Google chooses how high to rank an article based on how many other websites link to the article.

Once an article containing your product appears in the top 10 results on Google, this article will start getting a lot of links from other blogs and websites without you having to do anything.

The more backlinks the article gets, the harder it will be for any other company, website or competitor to outrank the article. This means, Google search results are self-reinforcing. Once search results are established, they tend to remain set in stone forever and become impenetrable.

This makes your customer acquisition strategy sustainable long-term.

When you run paid ads on an advertising platform like Facebook or Google your sales grind to a halt the moment you turn off the ads. You have to keep paying every day to continue getting result. This is often not sustainable long-term because advertising costs tend to increase with time.

As advertising costs increase, and ad platforms get more crowded, your ad campaigns might not be profitable anymore.

The same cannot happen with affiliate marketing. First of all, you're not paying "out of pocket" so it's very low-risk. And secondly, you can get exposure, leads and sales for months, years and decades. You can get results long after an affiliate partner has published an article that promotes your product.

This adds sustainability and longevity to your marketing efforts.

How to get bloggers and authority sites to promote your product

First of all, you need an affiliate program.

If you don't have that yet, we can help you set that up (it's easy).

Ideally, we'll take a look at your competitors' affiliate programs and pay slightly more in commissions. If your affiliate program is more attractive than that of your competitors, or if your competitors don't even have affiliate programs, bloggers and authority site owners will be happy to promote your product.

Not only that, but they're incentivized to prioritize promoting your product over other products.

If you have the best affiliate program in your niche, it's likely that affiliate marketers in your niche will focus a majority of their time, energy and effort on writing articles about your product to promote it.

Is affiliate marketing really scalable?

There are a total of around 1.9 billion websites on the Internet and it's estimated that around 600 million of them are blogs. Not all of them will be in your niche but a good amount of them will be. Or they'll be in a related niche or parent category that is relevant enough to promote your product.

As you can see, there are millions of sites like SwitchBackTravel.com in every niche.

These blogs and authority sites exist in your industry as well, it's just a matter of identifying them, reaching out to them and recruiting them to become affiliates that promote your product.

This is a low-risk and simple strategy to grow your business sustainably. Due to the sheer amount of blogs, websites and authority sites that exist today, the strategy is highly scalable as well. It's all about consistently identifying the right affiliate partners, reaching out to them and partnering with them.

They key to a scalable affiliate marketing strategy is to systematically research affiliates, approach them and onboard them. Having a team of willing, motivated and professional affiliate marketers who want to promote your product, is one of the most cost-effective, low-risk and sustainable ways to grow your business.

How much can businesses make with affiliate marketing? A million dollar case study

One of our clients has recruited over 4,000 affiliates for his product.

He sells information products that cost anywhere between $7 all the way up to $997.

A majority of his sales come from affiliates. In his case, his business generates close to $90,000 a month. Although he has to pay a portion of that revenue to his affiliates every month, his marketing and business strategy is simple and his profit margins are very high.

He doesn't have to pay for traditional advertising. That would mean he doesn't know if he gets a return and how much it will be. Instead, he recruited a team of thousands of affiliate partners eager to promote his products.

He can easily predict his cash flow on a month-to-month basis since he knows how much he'll have to pay in commissions. This allows him to have peace of mind, re-invest into his business and simply continue doing what's working. He keeps recruiting affiliates and nurtures his relationship with existing partners. On the site, he explores other strategies, including paid advertising, to continue growing his business.

To this day, he still hasn't been able to run a profitable advertising campaign on Facebook or Google. At best, he keeps breaking even or losing money. His entire business is built on affiliate marketing.

Want to explore how we can scale your business?

Many businesses understand the power of affiliate marketing but don't have the resources, manpower and team to do it consistently and at scale. Or equally as common, they don't know how to do it properly.

We've received a good number of inquiries from brands trying to partner up with us.

Most of these affiliate recruitment campaigns had one thing in common: They had flaws. Identifying, approaching and recruiting affiliates is a skill that takes time and experience.

Affiliate recruitment at scale is hard to do in-house for most companies.

This is why our agency offers a done-for-you service.

We take care of everything for you.

If you'd like to explore how affiliate marketing can help you grow your business, feel free to contact us. We usually make a first assessment to learn more about your business and product. If we feel like we can genuinely help, we'll set up a strategy session to map out a personalized plan for you.

Both of these meetings are free and there are no strings attached. In case you like the plan we come up for you and would like to get our help to execute it, we can talk about it. In that case, we'll take care of everything for you.

This includes identifying affiliates, reaching out to them in a personalized way and recruiting them to promote your product. And if you don't have an affiliate program yet, we'll advise you and help you set one up.

Ready to brainstorm?

Example of B2B Lead Generation

Influencer marketing and affiliate marketing work for most types of businesses. B2B lead generation is specifically effective and well-suited for businesses that sell products and services to other companies.

As you probably know, B2B stands for business-to-business.

You can of course use influencer marketing and affiliate marketing to sell to other businesses.

There are many content creators and influencers in the business niche. However, one of the benefits of being in the B2B space is that you can directly identify, reach out to and acquire clients with direct outreach.

Influencer marketing and recruiting affiliates are indirect strategies, which is necessary for B2C, or business-to-customer type products. But when it comes to selling directly to businesses, entrepreneurs, founders, CEOs and companies, they usually have an online presence and can be contacted directly.

When it comes to this type of B2B lead generation, it's usually for high-ticket products.

A lot of B2B products and services cost > $3,000.

This usually makes it both necessary and effective to get on a call to sell the offer.

The cost of booking appointments

When it comes to booking appointments, demos, meetings or qualified sales calls, this has become quite expensive using traditional advertising methods like online advertising on Facebook or Google.

Until about 2018, you could run Facebook ads and book calls for around $100 each.

Nowadays, a lot of the people we're talking to are spending between $200-$400 per call.

This means, advertising costs for a booked appointment have increased 2-4 times in the last five years. As a result, B2B service providers have to constantly increase their prices to remain profitable.

It's not uncommon for businesses to spend $3,000-$4,000 to acquire a single high-ticket client.

This means their offers need to be priced upwards of $7,000-$10,000.

But if you're spending $3,000-$4,000 to acquire a high-ticket client, and you still have other overhead costs to pay, profit margins can quickly get squeezed. Also, spending hundreds of dollars to book a single meeting can be stressful and put pressure on business owners and sales people. There's not much wiggle room for errors.

Some businesses can still make it work using traditional advertising, but you have to be extremely good at paid advertising to pull it off profitably. You have to get used to razor-sharp profit margins and constantly be on top of your game. And you might have to keep increasing prices to combat rising ad costs.

The alternative: Organic lead generation

A lot of businesses that sell high-ticket offers aren't aware that it's significantly cheaper to do lead generation and book calls using organic methods. Organic lead generation includes direct outreach via email or LinkedIn.

There's several reasons for this:

When you're advertising on an advertising platform like Facebook or Google, you're not paying for the ad itself. What you're really paying for is access to data and the ability to target that data.

Facebook and Google sit on a tremendous amount of data, and they let you "buy" that data on their advertising platform. You can target the data in different ways and then run ads to subsets of the data. The problem is that this data has become increasingly more expensive with growing demand.

The result is that you have lots of businesses competing for the same attention.

This bids up prices.

Since all lead generation comes down to "data mining" costs, there's a simple solution.

Instead of paying an ad platform like Facebook or Google for "data mining", you can tap into cheap overseas labor to get even more precise data. Using cheap overseas labor you can perform "data mining", generate leads and book calls a lot cheaper than what you pay for traditional advertising.

Organic B2B lead generation: A multi-million dollar case study

The following case study is from one of my other businesses called Expert At Scale.

Expert at Scale offers a high-ticket coaching program for content creators and influencers who want to create and launch their own online course. As such, it's a B2B offer targeting other business owners, freelancers and course creators that are looking to make more money from their audiences.

Initially, we grew the business to around $20,000 a month using social media marketing and word-of-mouth. But we failed to scale to the million dollar mark using these strategies. We also spent $18,000 on Facebook ads only to break even. After a few months of no sales we had to turn off the ads since we started losing money.

This forced us to become smarter about our marketing.

Instead of using Facebook ads, we built a team of 40 virtual assistants in the Philippines that researched our ideal clients on a daily basis. We then sent out highly-targeted and personalized emails to ideal clients.

Now, of course we didn't start with a team of 40 people right away.

At first, it was just one virtual assistant.

But as the campaign started taking off and generating profit, we expanded to 5 virtual assistants. Then we kept growing in teams of 5 until we had over 40 virtual assistants doing lead generation full-time.

To put it simply, they were doing manual "data mining" and lead generation, but at scale.

We ended up paying around $35-$70 per booked appointment for our B2B offer.

This is around 5-10 times cheaper than what we were paying on advertising platforms. The leads were also a lot higher-quality. They actually showed up to meetings and were truly ideal clients.

The reason for this has to do with a couple of things. Manually booked meetings are generally a lot warmer and less flaky. When you schedule calls using paid advertising, the no show rate can be very high and leads are usually cold. With organic scaling, this is not the case because of the surgically-precise targeting, personalization and added intimacy.

With organic lead generation, our team can hand-pick every single ideal client that we want to reach out to. We can build surgically-precise, targeted lists of ideal clients that are 100% manually researched.

Combined with good copywriting and a laid-back and personalized outreach approach, we booked between 300-400 calls per month. Our average cost per call was around $70. In total, our team of 40 virtual assistants cost us around $20,000-$25,000 a month.

The 300-400 sales calls that we booked every month resulted in $120,000-$150,000 in monthly revenue. Show rates on calls were 70%-80% and conversations were mostly warm and friendly.

Our profit margins after taxes and all expenses were consistently above 30%.

The great thing about this strategy is that few businesses actually know how to do it. This makes it a "blue ocean".

Want to see if this strategy can work for you as well?

If you'd like to explore how we can grow your business using the same strategy, we're happy to brainstorm and strategize with you. With lead generation costs typically 5-10 times cheaper than paid advertising, there is a lot more wiggle room and potential for higher profit margins.

Whether you want to use this strategy as your primary lead generation method or as an additional source of leads and sales, organic lead generation at scale can be a tremendous way to grow your business.

During our initial assessment we'll brainstorm and discuss your business. If we feel like we can genuinely help, we'll invite you to a second meeting where we come up with a custom plan for you.

Both of these meetings are free. In case you like the plan and want our help implementing it, we'll take care of the entire lead generation, outreach and appointment booking process for you.

We usually start by assigning one virtual assistant on our team to do lead generation for your business.

Once the campaign is off the ground and profitable, we can scale by assigning more team members and increasing the volume. As the campaign grows, costs tend to go down since our agency fee doesn't grow in a linear way alongside the lead generation team. This means your cost per result likely gets lower as we scale.

What our clients have to say

“Your book 'The 7 Laws of Direct Marketing' can be considered a compilation of pure marketing knowledge which has absolutely no useless space-fillers. It is basically a summary of old and new marketing strategies filtered by efficiency. It is a book that can be used as a solid marketing foundation for modern marketing rules.”

- Willi Melkov, Digital Marketer

“I've personally known and worked together with Till as he developed from a fledgling entrepreneur experimenting with digital marketing to becoming an authority who cashed out his first business to his biggest competitor. Sure, he hasn't developed the reputation the likes of Frank Kern or Ryan Deiss yet, but the stuff he teaches and personally uses to make money for himself (unlike most gurus who make money selling advice on how to make money) works.”

- Christopher Chia, Copywriter

“A treasure box full of amazing information.”

- Vladislav Davidzon, Regenerative Leadership Institute

“In 3 hours I have 200 new mailing list subscribers and 100 new Facebook likes already. Already the open rate of the newsletter is 15% that’s twice as high as my usual.”

- Adrian Boeckeler, Anno Domini Nation

“When you took on the title of ‘mentor,’ you went completely beyond what many mentors do. Your knowledge is astounding and you have an incredible ability of explaining exactly how and what the next step is for me. Your generosity with all of the swipe files, extra lessons, extra time, website evaluations, goal setting, etc. goes far beyond your ‘call of duty.’ People pay thousands for what you’ve given for free. My productivity, focus, creativity and self-confidence is through the roof because of your mentoring. As for the other members, wow! They’ve been amazing. I don’t freely delve out trust, respect or praise, but in your case, you’ve earned all three and I will forever be grateful.”
